Imam Ali shrine secured

IRAQ THE MODEL has news on the situation in Najaf.

Omar references a BBC report as well as news from Iraqi news outlets. In any event, this appears to be rather good news, though it’s disturbing that Sadr wasn’t found among the militants inside the compound.

UPDATE: Well, “secured” is probably too strong a term; according to a followup report by the BBC, the militants haven’t yet left the shrine. At least it’s progress, though. US operations in Najaf are “all defensive operations right now.”

MORE: Definitely not secured. Previous reports are contradicted by both Iraq’s National Security Advisor, Mouwaffaq al-Rubaie, and an aide to Sadr.
