You have probably noticed that I depend rather heavily on non-U.S. news sources.
These organizations are often not favorable to the point I’m making. And, honestly, that’s why I read (and use) them; my friends (particularly my non-U.S. friends) think they’re getting the “real” story because they see superior, unbiased news reporting. Of course, there’s nearly always bias.
The latest flap with the Iraqi soccer team via Sports Illustrated is a prime example. What happens when a non-U.S. news organization with an agenda takes the original story and sensationalizes it still further? Well, it shouldn’t be any surprise. Omar’s perspective on this story, by the way, is well worth reading, and Ali has some related thoughts regarding the Iraqi team’s impressive showing in Athens.
