Dan Rather and CBS are still sticking by their guns. I almost feel sorry for them… well, no, I lie. I don’t feel sorry at all.
Tim Blair has a good rundown, including several new bits. Don’t miss the reference to The Simpsons, the rather thorough investigation into whether an IBM Selectric Composer (not your daddy’s typewriter) would have been able to produce the documents, and the particularly convicting evidence that one of the principals in a memo dated August 18, 1973 had retired in 1972.
None of this implies that Rather and CBS will change their tune. I fully expect denial until the public at large gets bored with the story. However, this may not actually be possible until the likes of Howard Dean and Terry McAuliffe stop referring to the 60 Minutes piece as factual reporting.
UPDATE: Both Instapundit and JustOneMinute link to a Jim Geraghty piece on “Rathergate.” Game over? It sure looks that way.
MORE: Power Line, from the start a clearinghouse for information on this, has more on the story about the story: L.A. Times reporter Peter Wallsten attempts to spin the blogosphere as unreliable even while acknowledging that “blogs are major players.” Also, don’t miss the link to Hugh Hewitt’s brilliant recap (and more).
