Tareek al-Shaab reports on the security situation in Iraq.
IWPR provides the following through its Iraq Press Monitor:
After meeting Basra Governor Hasan al-Rashid, Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said terrorist operations led to the killing more than 3,000 people and injuring of more than 12,000. But he emphasized that the security situation would witness a leap next month regarding army, police, National Guard, and all training and arming aspects. He pointed out that 12 regiments would be deployed all over the country. As to the security of oil enterprises, Allawi emphasised that arrangements were underway to provide the necessary means for their protection.
(The Iraqi Communist Party issues Tareek al-Shaab.)
This should go a long way towards improving stability, particularly for areas like the one Mohammed drove through last week.
